Muscat: A'Sharqiyah University is set to expand its academic footprint with the establishment of a new branch in the Wilayat of Sur, in South al Sharqiyah Governorate, according to an official decision issued on Sunday.

The move comes under Royal Decree No. 14/2026, which merged the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation into a single entity, which is the Ministry of Education.

According to the decision, the new branch will operate in Sur and will function under the existing legal and regulatory framework governing private higher education institutions in Oman. This includes compliance with the Higher Education Law issued under Royal Decree No. 27/2023 and its executive regulations.

The establishment also follows Ministerial Decision No. 78/2009, which originally licensed A'Sharqiyah University as a private higher education institution, as well as approvals from the university’s Board of Trustees and administrative leadership.

Officials confirmed that the branch will be fully integrated into the national higher education system and will operate in accordance with the rules applied to non-governmental universities across the Sultanate.

The decision will be published in the Official Gazette and will come into effect from the day following its publication.

The new campus in Sur is expected to broaden access to higher education opportunities for students in South Al Sharqiyah and surrounding areas, further strengthening the university’s presence beyond its main campus.
